Extinctions : The Tiger
When a former hunter from China claims to have photographed a South China Tiger - a species believed to be extinct - the media go crazy! The picture makes the front page of all the papers. It is an amazing scoop. But the illusion is soon shattered. The man is a cheat, a forger. So how are the last Asian tigers surviving? From the Burmese Golden Triangle to Vietnam, from Thailand to Java, we investigate the deadly spiral of hunting and trafficking, and look at breeding and its ambivalent role in conserving the species.
For this episode, the producers actually made a 3D model of the last Bali tiger, based on skulls, bone parts and skins discovered all over Asia. This unique specimen is now a prized museum exhibit.
