Extinctions : The Polar Bear
Somewhere in Northern Iceland, a little girl watches as an animal crawls out of the sea in a state of exhaustion. It is a polar bear! What is it doing here, so far from its natural environment? How did it swim as far as the Icelandic coast? Did it deliberately leave Greenland in the far north because the pack ice was melting? The animal is shot. Two others bears turn up during the weeks that follow and share its tragic end. Proof of global warming? A leading researcher, Mitch Taylor, challenges this idea. He believes that the opposite is true: the shrinkage of the icepack could improve life for the bears. From Alaska to the Canadian Far North, we set out in search of the truth.
