Extinctions: The Elephant
Each morning, elephants brazenly, unscrupulously embark on a looting rampage, wrecking the crops that farmers in Southeast Asia depend on for their survival. Men gather to take action and neutralize them. But how is that possible, given that such conflicts are increasingly common? The segmentation of the elephants’ habitat is forcing them to stray onto human territory, land that was once theirs. And the pachyderms face a greater danger: parted from their fellows and cousins, isolated family groups are forced to inbreed, with potentially disastrous results for the future of their species.
